Cailyn's First Birthday

Happy Birthday, Dear Cailyn!
Wow, she's one! Time is a funny thing; in some ways this year seems like it's dragged out forever, but in others it seems like she was just born a few months ago.
(By the way, thanks to Katie and Hannah...or should I say Ava and Ari?...for the cute birthday outfit!)

Cailyn's birthday is today, the 6th, but we had her party yesterday.
She LOVED the balloons!

Here's the birthday girl with second cousin, Pearl, who is about a month younger than Cailyn. These girls are pretty funny together!
The main (only?) activity that I planned for the party was decorating gingerbread cookies. It was fun to see the different personalites come out in the decorating. Here's our little decorating table.
Nick put a lot of thought into the colors and designs.
Ava was very meticulous. Ari wandered around and didn't do a whole lot of decorating. And then there was Rylee.
I would describe her style as dump-as-much-sugar-on-the-plate-as-you-can-and-pour-some-in-your-mouth-while-you're-at-it-oh-and-why-don't-we-throw-some-frosting-in-there-too-and-then-use-a-plastic-knife-as-a-spoon-to-scoop-the-sugar-in-your-mouth...wait-was-there-a-cookie-in-there-somewhere?
This is yet another illustration of the differences between the cousins that are best friends.
Just in case you didn't get the idea...
Even though Cailyn isn't quite big enough to decorate her own gingerbread man, she enjoyed the cookies too...

In fact, she enjoyed them so much, that by the time we got to cake she was kind of sugared out and not that interested in eating cake. (But, that doesn't make my sledding cake any less awesome!)

(Rylee blew out the candle on this cake and then declared "I be one now!" We told her that she wasn't one, she was almost three, to which she replied "NO, I not be three, I be one!" At another point, Grandma Clawson said "Rylee is your birthday coming on January 12th?" Rylee exclaimed "Yeah, go and get it!")
Cailyn had her own little sledding cupcake.
Like I said, she wasn't that into it...notice, her own face is clean while she is feeding it to Katie!

She did eat a little of it though (:
Here's our family. Can you see how cute Rylee's smile is behind Cailyn's hat?
And then present time...

Rylee gave her this doll. She seemed very fascinated by the eyes.
This little doll is from the Jensen girls. Funny story, they accidentally showed up for the party 24 hours early! So they stayed and played on Friday, but couldn't make it to the actual party.

So the party was a success.
The other thing that happened this weekend is Cailyn learned to climb all the way up the stairs.

She is very proud of herself and thinks it's the best hobby ever! I have a different opinion on that one, but I don't really have a say in the matter.

After a long day, I was still trying to snap pictures (surprise, surprise!)
Pearl gave Cailyn a cute little board book that counts to 5 and each of the numbers comes out like a puzzle piece. I thought it would be cute to get pictures of Cailyn holding the number one, but she thought it would be more fun to play a game of throwing-the-number-one-off-the-couch-as-soon-as-I-gave-it-to-her, so I didn't quite get the shots I was hoping for! Oh well. And this is her saying "OK, mom, enough already!"
